Jenna’s grandfather and a cousin, had worked very hard to acquire the house in which their grandmother grew up. Most of this trip was spent at their family house tucked in the hills of San Donato Italy. The second part of the trip was spent with my father in-law Mike, grandfather in-law Frank, and my aunt in-law Mary Jo. It was truly a magical place for me and I cannot wait to get back there.

Then we made our way through the capital down to what little coast exists in Slovenia, to a town named Piran. We spent two nights in the north part of the country in a tourist town called Bled. I thought we were famous until I learned that Javornik is about as common as Smith. Luke had been doing some research with regards to our family name, and he had discovered a mini ski resort named Javornik. I cannot express how special it was for me to visit the home country with my family.

Our great grandmother was born in the capital city before moving to America with her family at a very young age. Growing up Luke and I were constantly reminded that we were Bojon and that our family was from Slovenia. As you know, or should know, the Javernick last name is of Slovenian heritage. For the first part of the trip I was with my cousin Luke, his wife Tiff, and their son Dane. The trip for me would revolve around getting some quality time with both sides of our family. So here goes!Īs Jenna mentioned, I was fortunate enough to spend about two weeks in Slovenia and Italy. As I am sure you can tell from the excellent content thus far, Jenna has been doing all of the heavy lifting. Since I am listed as one of the authors on the blog, it is about time I start pulling my own weight. We’ve just been so busy with mini adventures, biking, and eating new things. So…….yea……….weekly, biweekly, monthly blog…….time can really get away from you. In light of the recent election (next blog's topic), we thought you could use a distraction.
